Coulisses (Behind the scene)

Let’s travel in time and around the world to discover more than 200 objects from the museum’s collections...

At the very heart of the museum's collections

From 4 July 2015 to 30 April 2016, the Natural History Museum, Le Havre, presents Coulisses (Behind the Scenes), a large-scale exhibition dedicated to the Museum’s scientific heritage.

More than 200 items from the Museum’s collections, many of which have never before been shown, are displayed by way of themes that play with contrasts: small/large, single/multiple, visible/invisible, sacred/profane, here/there, appearing/disappearing, complete/incomplete, known/unknown and yesterday/today.

With treasures from the collection, new acquisitions and restored works, the Museum presents a rediscovery of its heritage. It will be a voyage both in time and geographically, in the fields of geology, archaeology, zoology, palaeontology and ethnography, along with drawings by Charles-Alexandre Lesueur, providing the opportunity to revisit the Museum’s own history and its collections.

Following the aim of sharing national heritage and scientific culture with a wide audience, the Museum will present a range of playful and instructive learning tools for young visitors, workshops, as well as talks, lectures and screenings.
